this shot was taken in the evening. Camera setup on tripod and made up of 2 seperate raw conversions merged. Curves and Dodging and burning were applied as well as sharpening

Any C&C would be extremely useful

    Thanks

    Hi SwingKing,

I did very much love your earlier posting of the Bundoran Cliffs – but i’m afraid this does nothing for me at all. There are no element here that ‘grabs’ my attention. My eye does not wander around the image.

Although a good exposure, and it touchs on a good composition as regards the ‘rule of thirds’ – (only in that the horizon in on the top third grid) and that it has a passable ‘leading line’ – it just seems to fall flat.

Comapre it as a composition to this one from your own flickr page.

Sometimes it perhaps best to consider what to leave out – rather than what to try to squeeze in.

ps – your website link is not working.

    Hi Brendan,

I love nothing more than someone being critical with my image. So thanks for your honest opinion.

It’s only by following advice that I will get better.

I ‘m guessing what you are saying is that there is too much clutter in the image and it’s hard to focus on a specific subject, yes?

Some may look at your image and love it.

Some images can be very ‘busy’ – and still appeal – as in this Ansel Adams example.

In your particular image – nothing grabs me. Its a beautiful part of the country and i know that pathway. Maybe when your up there again – look west instead of down onto a smoke filled city, and look for some key element to include, like a gate, leading wall, lone tree, wandering stream etc – and make this the central focal point.

Even that path leading up the mountain would proabably be a 10 times better compsotion – and perhaps even better in B&W if the sky was 50% blue~50% white.

Many ways to skin a cat i know – but if i had stood where you were – i’d have left my camera in the bag.

    have a great Sunday.

That’s fantastic advice and I’ll certainly consider what you’ve said on my next shoot. Thanks again :)
