Apple Imac-Wireless keyboard not working?

Hope I’m posting in the correct place here….having trouble with my IMAC wireless keyboard since i moved it into another room. The keyboard is not recognised by the MAC. As a precaution I have changed the batteries (ensured they are in correct position) and tried turning on/off the side button. It means I can’t type, delete etc but i can use my mouse to click on screen. Ready to throw it out the window – can anyone help? :D
