Foamalux to board

LulaParticipant
Hi
Can anyone tell me what adhesive to attach large prints on foamalux (5mm) to ply. The prints need to be made more rigid.
TksstcstcMemberthey need to be dry mounted onto it. using a cold press double sided mount film
The Fine PrintMemberSteve, does that work safely?? I would have thought that Foamalux and drymount presses don’t go well together. Most drymount adhesives work at fairly high temps and I would have thought Foamalux would melt in a press:
Here is an excerpt from http://www.trueart.info” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; discussing adhesive bonding temperatures: “Fotoflat is a removable, thermoplastic adhesive tissue, which was developed more than thirty-five years ago. It consists of a piece of thin tissue paper, which is used as a carrier for the adhesive which has been sprayed on both sides. The adhesive melts at 180°F to 225°F (82° to 107°C) and has the advantage of not scorching and providing ease of removal with low heat. It bonds as it cools, at about 150°F (66°C). The disadvantage is that mounted works exposed to the heat of direct sunlight or left in a hot car could separate from the mounting board.MT5 is a nonreversible (cannot be removed) adhesive tissue used for permanent mounting. The bonding is activated between 225°F and 275°F (107°C and 135°C) and must be cooled under pressure. This tissue overcomes the problem of accidental separation in exposure to heat. It may, however, injure the artwork because of the high temperatures needed for the mounting process.
ColorMount was developed to work with resin-coated photography papers that came on the market in the 1970s. This tissue must be used within a narrow temperature range, 195°F to 205°F (91°C to 96°C). If the temperature rises to 212°F (100°C) the moisture in the photograph will begin to boil and the resin coating will prevent its evaporation, thus creating blisters and bubbles. Temperature-indicator strips can help check the temperature settings.”
iophotoworksParticipantThey should be mounted using a cold press (e.g. Drytac Jetmounter) and pressure sensitive d/s film like the one from Hot Press.
I am sure this is what Steve meant as he said “cold press double-sided mount film”stcstcMemberyep cold press, as i said
the adhesives are pressure activated rather than heat activated
Although i have successfully put foamalux in my hot glass vacum press but have to be very very careful with it, it goes floppy if to much heat is applied
and dry mount tissue isnt any good anyway, its designed to be used with porous materials. with foamalux you could use dry mount film which again is heat activated, but the best bet is cold press.
I do this all the time with prints,
although i find foamlux works well, diabond gives a better surface, but dont get quite as nice a finish to the edge
the other is aluminum, but finding a regular decent supply here is a problem, as cutting is is a large PITA
