Hi,
not sure if this is in the right place.what are peoples opinions on which is best if i was to invest in package?
i have used cs3 partially, is lightroom much better only if im shootin raw etc.
any info much appreciated.

RobGreen MeanieParticipantThey are different animals and IMO there is always a need for a strong photo editing package, like Photoshop or Elements and Library Management package such as Lightroom or Aperture.
Granted you can do a lot in LR3 with grad filters/exposure/saturation quite quickly but you will find yourself having to do a round trip in Photoshop to clone out something or to use layers & masks and so on. I think 90% of shooters would never need more than Photoshop Elements (70 or 80 quid) and that could be complimented by LR3 but it wouldn’t be a necessity.

RodredMemberclimberhuntParticipantI’d agree with John on this.
You should be able to get a demo copy of both CS5 and Lightroom, and go onto youtube for a few tutorial overviews of each. Also, they are very different in terms of cost €850 (CS5) versus €350 (LR3). CS5 comes with bridge, which is good for organising, so you may not need LR.
LR is good until you need to do something tricky like removing people, objects, etc.
If you mostly get stuff right in camera, then LR is great.
I’ve started doing more conceptual stuff recently, so I don’t think I could do without CS5 now. I was lucky enough to pick up a licenced copy of CS4 for €350, and I then upgraded to CS5 (€250). I got the CS4 on http://www.buyitultracheap.com” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; (sounds bad, I know, but they came through without any problems), but I don’t think they always have copies available, as they deal in liquidation stock. Oh, and I called Adobe and they validated my key :)—edit—
I just checked that website, they have CS5 download version for £299 and LR3 (boxed) for £149. Pretty damn good, if you ask me.
—edit—Rgds,
Dave.
