Errigal sunset

I was inspired by Gary McParland’s masterful shot, Reflections of Errigal (seen here: http://www.garymcparland.com/pages/viewimage.asp?idPhoto=171″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;)

Last Saturday, I finally had a nice sunset to attempt my own version. Not as nice as Gary’s, but I’m certainly encouraged to go back and try again.

Not sure which framing I prefer. In the first, I wanted to really emphasize the sky, but it’s missing out on the nice reflection. In the second, I wanted to include the reflection, but I’m not sure if the balance between sky/reflection is best; also not sure if I like the clump of grass in the foreground.

Any comments and critiques are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Great shots,

The first is the best for me, I like the simplicity and it’s emphasising that sky as you say. You still have some reflection from the mountain in the first which is nice. My eye is drawn to the bottom left hand corner of the second photo – I think it’s the reflection of the cloud that keeps pulling my eye in – it’s a bit distracting. I prefer the minimalist style of the first. That said, I’d be happy if I had taken either of these, a good day’s work!

The second shot holds more appeal for me as the calmness of the water lends a terrific reflection to the sky.

the second is my fav – agree with above, the old jetty poles give me more scale/perspective and also it has more detail in the shadows.
    lovely pics.

    both are very nice!

i would crop the second 2:1 to loose some of the bottom and more of the top.

nice all the same well done
