What is a portrait for you?

    Hey everyone.
For college we are now working on Portraiture & I have to write a little piece on what it is for me.
I know what my view of portraiture is.
But I was just wondering, what are your views about portraits? What makes a portrait for you?

For me a portrait should be about capturing something of the person, their essence, a moment where they forget you’re there.

    Easier said than done :)

It should capture something of the uniqueness of the person (or animal) & something of their personality too. It may also tell something about the persons life.
Very good question by the way. :)

Concur with the earlier postings. It’s about the objects soul, not how they/it looks.

Personality. I feel a portrait should portray an individuals personality. Whether that be by capturing a glint in there eye, or a fleeting smile but it should always feel natural.

    in my humble opinion :)
