Model’s portfolio

Patrick AmharcParticipant
Your opinion is welcome on this portrait from a workshop for a model’s portfolio :
RASMITH32MemberYou are suffering from a condition that i sometimes incur where the model turns orange. Not sure why this is but if you find out let me know

like above from RAS the color looks off on my screen – is it white balance setting in camera?
a couple points imho that might improve the image, the nose being covered as it is by arms does not look great, if it’s deliberate get face lower or adjust camera position to frame. Also the right eye could do with some fill from reflector or second light at very least to get a catchlight in the eye.
Another thing you could try is to give a bit of edge light or kick with a light pointed at model from back.
ANDYwithCAMERAParticipantI agree with JMAC-2006 on lighting, and would also say that his hair could use more light too, either from above, or behind. Behind would add a nice rim-light so the hair doesn’t just disappear into the black background.
As for the colour being off, if you shoot RAW, this is something that can usually be fixed after the photo’s been taken. If you shoot JPEG, you’re stuck with it as it is. It’s still better to get it right on the camera in the first place either way. If you can adjust your camera’s white balance by inputting a Kelvin or “K” value, have a play around and you’ll soon know instinctively know how to get proper white balance in most shots. If not, take a photo of a white sheet of paper where your model will be, and use it to calibrate your camera’s while balance. Have a look under “white balance” in your camera’s manual to figure that out.
Patrick AmharcParticipantHere is a more look alike the original picture. The colour is on purpose : the modeling light of one of the flash has been used to warm up the skin.
