I took this shot a couple of years ago in my work as a press photographer. This was the venue of a very serious Accident – after two cars racing had lost control and crashed into a Bungalow. The driver of one of the two Audies was killed and a child in the rear of one the cars, ( Which turned out to be a relative of my wife;s) was injured seriously also, he survived but lost his Spleen and part of his Liver… As you might guess, drink was involved – a further reminder to us all, as if we need to be reminded. I had reluctantly gone to the scene to photograph the aftermath. The accident had occured about 6 hours previously and the Guards had finished their reconstruction of the scene. The car in the image was still on the drive of the bungalow where it had come to rest. A forklift truck was used to move the car out of the rubble and to reposition it ready for removal. I was a little distance away, and just using my 100-400L to view the situation really, not expecting any worth while images.. What I saw I couldnt believe as the Audi, which had been only losely secured, fell off the Fork lift trucks arms , whilst the two Guards were still just underneath it walking with the load. They only just managed to jump clear as the vehicle hit the roadway. An already tragic event had almost taken the lives of two policemen. Instinctively I fired off at 4 FPS on my 1DS Mk2. The image made Front page of the Irish Independent the next day. I do not enjoy covering these types of events as a Freelance Photographer .. Furthermore, in my previous life, I spent almost 30 years on the other side of the water, doing the same job as these two lucky young men….:}
This is the second image at the car hit the deck…
Canon 1DS Mk2 – Canon 100-400L FL at about 300mm.

Liam2673ParticipantWell done on being there at the right time. Its an interesting story, a bit heavy given the outcome but nonetheless worth telling.
