Balbriggan light house at dusk
-
JohncParticipant
Hi I took this shot on Balbriggan beach last weekend at last light.
Any comments both negative or positive would be welcomed.
Thanks
BallymanParticipantI like this, it’s a lovely scene.
After looking at it again, maybe there is a little too much space in the top left? Also, I wonder would it look better at sunrise with the sun lighting the lighthouse?
texMemberNot sure the long exposure for the sea does it any favours, and I feel that the lighthouse could be sharper.
BallymanParticipantI was looking at this on an iPhone earlier and now that I see it larger I’m not sure I like it anymore!!! :) I think there is way too much empty space on the lhs.
I’d also agree that the overly long exposure on the sea doesn’t work either.stewart kennyMemberlove the tones, really love this high key landscape feel. i shoot in area a lot, it really is a photographers play ground. pity they took the wreck out of the harbour it was one of my favorite things to photograph.

RASMITH32MemberThis is a lovely shot and is just missing a returning shrimp trawler in the left side space.
Jonnyp16vParticipantI like it, I know there is too much space to the left, but my main criticism would be the white patch in the rocks. It keeps drawing my eye, I feel this shot would benifit from it being cropped at the bottom. I also like how the rocks curve up to the right, leading to the light house.
neilwhiteParticipantHey John,
Lovely shot, personally I like the empty space to the left.
Could definitely see this as a big print or canvas.
Maybe even a slight panoramic crop to take out the rock pool in the foreground might improve it.
Any filters in use here or just low light?hooperParticipanttommykelsoMemberI think if you created a portrait cropat the far right hand side, it might make it work better
CanonloverParticipantHi
Love this image, it’s taken a bit of stick from the others but well done for doing this in mono and not another David Noton chasing the stupid light type shot, the lighthouse and the empty space work well together, after all is the lighthouse not there to protect large expances of water, the sea is a little to flat but that gives it the late evening feel, thanks for posting and keep it up, wouldn’t mind this one my self.
