Forensic Photography help!

Muse-CanonParticipant
Hello All,
I am currently doing a night course in photography and thinking about doing a course in Criminalistics and Forensic Psychology aswell. I am interested in forensic photography (eww I know!). As well as loving Photography I enjoy anything Crime related and would love to get into a career maybe involving both.
I was wondering does anyone know any tips for me about getting into this line of work and the business for it in Ireland?
Thanks Niamh :)Ger 208kParticipantThere are really only two employers for that type of work, An Garda Siochana and the Forensic Laboratory, so the positions are very limited. Also there is a public service recruitment embargo at the moment ……
miki gParticipantThe PSNI might be an option or the military police, if they are recruiting. A good knowledge of Entomology would be useful in this field, as would a study of Ballistics etc. It doesn’t work like CSI here in Ireland where all the guys can do everything, you would need to specialise in a particular field. Another option (when recruitment resumes) is the fire service.
ButtonParticipantI maybe wrong but I think for an garda siochana they don’t hire outside the gardai so it would mean firstly qualifying as a garda :(
GrahamRParticipantMaybe try a few solicitors or insurance companies?
Not sure who they get in to take photos of damaged cars, injuries, flood or fire damage…_____________________________________________________________________________
“There are 2 ways of joining the Technical Bureau:-•Garda Positions: Recruitment is from the ranks of An Garda Síochána.
•Civilian Expert Positions: The Public Appointments Service advertises civilian expert positions and these posts are managed by the Civilian Human Resource Directorate. After 5 years training and experiential learning in the different Bureau sections, a member of the Bureau will usually acquire expert status. During their 5 years of training, members attend relevant courses in their respective scientific fields both in Ireland and abroad. Once expert, members can undertake a 2 year Diploma Course in Crime Scene Investigation. “
