LeoParticipant
I’ve always had an interest in photography and in astronomy, so I finally decided to try and bring the two together. I bought an adapter to connect my camera to my telescope and just couldn’t wait to give it a try.
This is my first attempt,…. actually, more of a trial run really. I took this last night even though it was a bit foggy so “seeing” wasn’t great. Even though conditions weren’t all they could be, I was happy enough with the outcome.
I’d appreciate a critical eye thrown over it.
Thanks,
Leo.Joey CParticipantGreat quality – it looks to me anyway..what telescope did you use? and camera/lens pls?
LeoParticipantThanks Joey!
It’s a modest set. The telescope is Bresser Skylux 70mm refractor that I bought in Lidl a few years back (for €70) but never got much use. It’s 700mm long with with a 70mm aperture which makes it a very basic 700mm F10 lens. Manual focus and no auto-exposure, attached via an adapter directly to the front end of my Nikon D80, on manual. Exposure was about 1/50th sec.
Joey CParticipantThanks, i have a similar telescope for years but tend to use binocs for stargazing .. been meaning to look into the adapter thing, is it expensive and where did ya pick it up?
joeanimalParticipantLeoParticipantThe adapter is really two pieces that screw together, a T Ring and a T Adapter.
The T ring is specific to your type of camera, I got the Nikon one as I have a Nikon D80.
The T adapter is specific to your telescope. If your telescope takes 1.25″ eye pieces, then you get a 1.25″ T Adapter.
Just screw the two pieces together, then one end goes into your DSLR in place of a lens, and the other goes into the ‘scope in place of the eye piece….. simple!
The two pieces together only cost me €28, including delivery charges, from http://www.telescopehouse.com. They also take PayPal so payment is handy too.
Hope this helps.
Leo.
Joey CParticipantthanks Leo, i imagined they were more expensive..already lookin forward to getting one.
damiansynnottParticipantYeh great shot. Will definitely look into getting one of those adapters and trying this out too. Well done.
