    Hey All,
new to the site, have been an onlooker for some time but bit the bullet and joined so I can get involved. Really new to the world of DSLR photography, have a basic knowledge but nothing concrete. Looking forward to discussing whether I should get a Canon or a Nikon and what I should do with some old 35mm equipment!

welcome to the forum :D they are a helpful lot here.
As to what brand to buy. Go to your local shop and handle them. I think everyone here will advise that as they both feel completely different in the hand. Quality wise I think it is six and half a dozen to be honest.

Welcome! Get using the 35mm camera, its so much more satisfying feeling when you get good photographs!! And understanding film will help give you better results from the manual settings on your DSLR!
