Glenveagh National Park: a good day for reflection

Weatherman forecasted rain/snow for today (Saturday); instead turned out to be one of the calmest days that I’ve been out. Unfortunately the light was pretty harsh and by the afternoon sky was pretty grey. Still enjoyed being out there.
C&C is appreciated.
Thanks for looking!
Paul WhParticipantHi
You’re heading in the right direction, on No 1 a nd grad would of helped in sky and a little of the left hand side of the mountains, No 2 a polariser would give you a more saturated sky and No 3 perhaps a mix of the two, your not far off the mark, well done for getting out there and sharing your images, P Wh.
streetshooterMemberNo. 3 is a peach! Your composition showing more reflection than actual sky works really well! :)

Liam2673Participantsome smashing landscape shots posted in the last few days, these are more of them. No.s 1 and 3 for me……would like to see the third blown up a bit larger…..was it a crop as a matter of interest? The first shot I probably like best, only small detail I would question is the branch coming in from the top of the image.
ilsiuParticipantPaul – Lots of good advice. For #1, I actually used a 2-stop GND; I tried a 3-stop but it turned the sky darker than the reflection. I think what would’ve help is having a 2-stop over the sky and a 1-stop over the bright part of the reflection. Probably the best solution would’ve been to wait for a cloud to pass in front of the sun to tame the contrast, but I was impatient :). For #2, a polarizer is indeed on my shopping list, but I’m not sure it would help in this instance because the sun is almost directly behind me; my understanding is that polarizers aren’t very effective when shooting directly into or opposite of the sun. For #3, I agree!
Liam – The third is a crop; I think it’s a good candidate for a stitched panorama. As for the branch in the first, I’ll bring my pruning shears next time :D. Maybe I could try cloning it out.
Once again, thanks for taking a look and for the comments.
