Advice on a new multipurpose lens

  Hi all,

  Need some advice on buying a new lens. I recently got my first dslr (canon 1000d with 18-55mm kit lens). I am not dissatisfied with this lens but feel that I could do much better in terms of image quality. I am mainly interested in landscape and black and white, but also want the option for good portrait and good zoom shots when needed. I plan to eventually buy a good wide angle lens down the line but for now one lens that does it all is what im looking for.

  I have seen the sigma 18-125mm f3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM lens. Seems to get good reviews but I am looking to get peoples opinions on either this lens if they have used it before or other options to best suit my interests. Budget is around €350. Any comments or help would be great, thanks :D
