Campinas’ Night

  • Hello friends! :)

    Long time no see!
I’ve been attending to a night photografy course, and I’d like to share one of these photos:

City above by Suzan Martino, on Flickr

please let me know how I can improve my night photos, since I’m still learning (as you can see)
    thanks! :D

love the reflections in the water, would have given it a bit more exposure, maybe a stop or so.

    Hi,

I recently read the following article on night photography which may be of some help:

I think that the key to night photography is the times that you are taking the picture, usually around 1hr before and 1hr after sunset, so that you are getting a nice contrast between the natural and artificial light…

Hi Suzan, I like your photo but I think there’s too much black if you know what I mean. Lawrence is definitely regarding the time of your shot, an hour before sunset gives the sky a beautiful colour.

Large areas of black sky kill many night photos. So some detail in the sky is very important even if it is the colour of the setting sun.

    Hello!!! :D

Thanks a loooot for your tips!
As I’m in a course, this time I coudn’t choose the time to take the photos, but for my personal try, I’ll consider your tips !

I tried to expose a little more, but, in my opinion, the artificial lights became to shiny, making it impossible to see what’s behind those trees.
And this was one of my problems there: How do I correctly expose so the trees don’t become these “black spots”, since they are in front of the light?

I’ll read the tutorial sent by Lawrence, and I’ll come back here to show the results! :D

    again, Thaaaaaaanks!
