Layer Cake by jakiky, on FlickrBrian_CParticipantKlarensParticipantMardai24ParticipantReally lovely. Great shot. I love the clarity in the forefront and the froth on the sand right through to the spray on the breaking waves. Nice, really nice.
Can I ask what lens etc.? This is the sort of shot I’d aspire to but no where near there yet. Any help/advice?
Marystewart kennyMembersnaphappyMemberThanks guys for the comments, Mardai the lens I used was a canon 17-40 f4L zoomed in to 40 ml the aperture was F22 normally I would shoot around f16 as I find that is the sweetspot on my lens but I dropped down to f22 as I wanted to slow the shutter down to around half a second to capture the movement in the water the iso was 50..
PixelleMemberThe foreground makes this picture for me. The low angle, the light and the bubbles are well-utilized.
The wave is a little misty, the slow shutter doesn’t work for me, but as they say, just an opinion…Gary McParlandParticipanttommykelsoMemberYeah I agree,
I love the textures in this shot, from the beach to the frothy water to the waces and sky..
Very good shot matey!
Alan RossiterParticipantNice shot there John. Colour, contrast & light controlled perfectly and composition cannot be faulted.

miki gParticipantHi John.
It’s a nice shot, but I find the foreground layer of bubbles throw the whole scene off balance as it is angled. Not much you could have done to change that though.zeddicusMemberTo me that is a fantastic shot, the whole composition perfect. love the colour in the sand, the wet beach with the bubbles, and the wave timed perfect. make a great print (large). Well done :D

Glad I did now though. This is a super shot , beautiful composition and even your signature sits nicely over the sand. Love the foreground.
When I look at really good photo’s I tend to try find fault more :-), not sure why that is, I guess its in trying to decide if the picture is very good or if it etches into excellent. In relation to this shot its right on the edge of excellent. What would perfect it for me would be if there was a small bit more sky, just feels a little tight. There is also some fractional barrel distortion on the horizon. Sorry, I know thats nit picking!
Super shot nonetheless, Well done
