HELP!!!!

My brother joined a band recently and has done just one gig so far. On Sunday he has his second gig and asked me if i would go and do the photography for them for the hour they are playing.

I have shot the odd show but nothing that i was giving to a client or anything and just wondered what you would recommend in regards to settings and perhaps flash guns (not sure whether i can use it so best to leave it out) and lenses.

Also does anybody know what to charge? At the time when he said it to me about wanting a photographer my Mother was there and said i would do it for petrol money (i know i cant charge much since i havent done much band work for clients and it is not a paid gig for them) but if i only did it for petrol money i wouldnt be making anything for my time or if they want the photos printed. It would cost more to print a couple of photos then it would to fill my entire car – which is not what they are going to pay me because it wont take a full tank to get too and from the gig.

Im a bit confused and though im excited to have a shoot i dont really know what to do.

Any suggestions? Band work is not my regular work

Tough choice. I’d Charge em by the hour. Driving time. Show time. Processing time. Printing is their cost too. I usually charge it as what I would be getting in overtime from work, if I was at work. But you’ve already agreed to charging them to just cover petrol costs. You want to chat to them and make your intentions known. There’s no point in being shy about it. Then you’ll know where each other stands. Perhaps you could do this one for the petrol fill and next time, if there is a next time you could agree a set price before hand. That’s just my opinion.
