Why did you buy?

A friend of mine was interested in buying his first DSLR recently & asked me which camera he should buy. I suggested that he should look up reviews of the models currently available to help him decide. I know why I picked out my camera, but it wouldn’t be right for me to tell him that the same model would be the best choice for him. Just wondering, what made you decide on your camera model?

Not much to decide. I was given a Nikon D300 and kit as a retirement gift. :D :D :D

If I was starting from scratch?

    * Any brand (at the same level/price, the brands are so alike, and the last released will be better for a short while)
    * Good weight and fit to hand
    * Intelligible user interface (buttons and menus)
    * Need for a special lens that only one brand had

A friend had Nikon, I liked the look and feel of the camera and so bought a D70 here in Cork as a result.
When it comes to the top couple of brands, I think that it really just comes down to the feel of it. There
isn’t a huge amount of difference other than that really. The top few brands will have plenty of lens choices
    available both new and secondhand.

Had access to Minolta lenses so went Sony, never regretted it very easy camera to find
your way around, have since changed to Nikon (because it was bought for me) but still
    have my Sony.
