    Hi,

whole new area of photography for me, only done a handfull of portraits.. first one is done against a white wall with an external flash from the right triggered by my 7d pop up flash. Taken with a 50mm 1.8 on a 7d.

second one taken out side with natural light with the 50mm..

cheers for looking, and c+c welcome,

    jayo.

    hi jayo
1st shot from looking at it it looks like the tip of the nose is in focus, use selective focusing and focus on the eyes, you could also open up the aperture from 1.8 to 4 as you dont need to be wide open when there is nothing behind subject, also a shadow to the right, make sure subject is far enough from the wall to reduce shadows.

2nd shot nice composed shot, the background could be less distracting by using 1.8 aperture, just make sure at subjects faces are on the same plane.

    well done

    Hi Jayo,

Good effort for someone new to photography.

Like the way you have a frame within a frame
in the second pic – that was clever.

Agree with Phillip on his advice.

    Rgds.,

    Gerry.
