A few street photos
-
ChasetheAceParticipant
Hi all, just thought I’d put up a few street shots for C&C. All comments welcome.

alancotterParticipantThey’re actually not bad. I would like to see the original crop of the first image, provided that it brings both characters into the image more.
Each image has an interesting subject, the only advice i’d give you is to lay off the contrast, they look like they have that “stamp” filter in Photoshop applied. Tone it way down and bring the images back to life a little..
Dermot1Participantthe whole Idea of street photography at it’s most basic is to capture life in flow, I think any post processing other than converting a colour shot to B+W if you shoot digital should not be used, and maybe at a stretch a tiny bit of cropping but not taking one small area from a large group shot. only one that works for me is the lad on the bus but even it seems overcooked.
BMParticipantI get the sense that you are looking to establish your own style – in terms of angle of shots, composition, content, candid/opportunity and processing. The comments on post processing are worth considering – as is to continue to experiment with different techniques and styles.
davedunneParticipantTo me, the processing is a little heavy but the images themselves are getting there.
#3 is the best of the three.
I too would prefer to see more of #1.
MartinOCParticipantYou are in close and have interesting angles. Very good shots.
#1 is best for me too, interaction is always nice, whether it’s people or the scene geometry, juxtaposition etc.
I also think you should tone down the style, let the substance be what strikes people.ChasetheAceParticipantThanks for the feedback. I can see what you mean by the processing. I edited these on my laptop but after seeing them on a 21 inch monitor which is calibrated I can see that they do need to be toned down alot. I’ll come back to these soon and repost them probably in a day or two.
yeh, I’m just looking to try something different and try to get a style, but that will come with experiments, failures, experience, time and even more failures. I won’t be giving up on it, I’ll get there (what I’m after) in the end, hopefully :)
Here is number 1.
I just didn’t like the maplin bag and the bike wheel.
Any and all advice will greatly appreciated.
John
davedunneParticipantHaving now seen the full #1, I think the crop is better (although not my favourite). In the full shot, the focus is on the people in the background which probably wasn’t your intent.
ChasetheAceParticipantThese are the reprocessed photos.

Hi Dave, it wasn’t my intention to focus on the people in the backround. I was shooting from the hip, if I had of been one or two feet further away I would of gotten the two guys in focus.
stevebMemberCant add much to whats been said, except agree; well over cooked and too much processing for street.
alancotterParticipantThe reprocessed shots are much easier on the eye. No.3 is the strongest for sure.
