Hi, We’ll be visiting Baltimore for a couple of days next week and, weather permitting, are hoping to take in some landscape photography. Anyone know of any really good “off the beaten track” places, those little gems you wouldn’t mind sharing (we’ll keep quiet about them  ). I’m a little confined in that I’m in a cast from my knee down, so unfortunately, there’ll be no climbing or hiking, but I’m well able to walk and don’t need crutches at this point.
We’ve only a couple of days so while we’ll be able to get out and about, drive and do some sight seeing, it’d be great if I had a couple of key places that we could see first.
Any/all suggestions greatfully appreciated.

jaybeeParticipantThere’s plenty of spots within easy reach of baltimore…
Within the village you’ll want to head up to the beacon, if you hop the wall at the top of teh hill teh walk to the top is fairly gentle… If you drive all the way to the end the climb is pretty steep!!
Hop on teh ferry and head over to cape clear….
Lough Hyne is beautiful….
Castletowsend, Three Castles Head, Toe Head, The Mizen are all within easy reach…
Sheeps Head is little further afield but well worth it
look up dzogchen beara, its a buddhist retreat, and just drive up for a look… the view is astonsihing!!
have you booked your accomadation??
drop me a line if you need any more info!

Am I right thinking that’s snow on the ground, I have to travel to west Cork daily for work and I don’t like the look of this. Beautiful picture BTW.
Dave.
PS, I don’t know Baltimore that well so I can’t recommend anywhere else except maybe Sherkin Island has it’s also a beautiful spot.
jaybeeParticipantdon’t panic!!
that was back in december, just an idea of what the view is like from my seat here in the window!!
SeaviewParticipantThat’s a relief, I did hear this morning that it was snowing Glengariff so you never know.
Dave.
jaybeeParticipantMardai24ParticipantThanks Jaybee. Appreciate all the tips. Really looking forward to the visit. Yep accommodation booked; Caseys? Back on two feet now, a bit limpy but getting there so looking forward to stretching the legs and taking some gentle walks; I have a map of the village and noticed the beacon. Good to know that its possible to walk to it. I like the sound of the Buddhist retreat. I hope they don’t mind us driving up to take a look. I looked at visiting Sherkin, but no ferries at this time of the year, apparently. Clear seems to be a definite though. Just have to get the main man interested and so long as I don’t plan that for Saturday when the match is on..!!
Will post some shots when we get back.
Cheers and thanks again, jaybeeParticipantsherkin ferry runs every day all year….
casey’s is lovely, you’ve a fair walk to the village mind you!!
also worth popping down to trafraska which is just round the corner from casey’s
go to bushe’s for pints, the left hand side is just so… Aidan is a big rugby fan (note the match ball from the trouncing of england behind the bar!!… lets hope for a repeat)
