This Image is a Photoshop blend of me and my nine year old son. It isnt until I started the blend that I realised how alike we are. When he saw it I am not sure he was all that impressed …..I know the duo tone might not be everyones taste but again its myself and jacks eyes.
like father like son by jakiky, on FlickrKjetilNorwayParticipantThat is impressive, and very interesting. Talk about being the spitting image…
Good technique as well…sndipoMemberconnieParticipantThat is very clever! I like it alot. yet another thing to add to my “need to try” list.
markst33ParticipantExcellent technique and very original post. Could you elaborate on the technique and steps you used to create this image.
snaphappyMemberThanks guys. Markst 33 I shot both myself and the small fella with a single strobe front right with the camera on a tripod that way it kept the lighting consistant on both our faces. when I had both images loaded into photoshop I opened one as a backround layer then dropped the second as a layer. I turned down the opacity on the top layer image to 50% allowing my to see through it to the backround layer below. I used the free trasform tool to scale up the two heads as close as possible. The next step is to use the liquify filter which allows you to manipulate the face to closely match the opposite for lining up hair lines and chin area the forward warp tool within the liquify filter is best and for matching the eyes and nostrils I used the bloat tool within the liquify filter. All the time while doing this matching have the opacity dropped down so you can see through to the image below for matching. I then opened a layer mask on the top layer and with the brush tool set to black I painted out the parts of the top face I didnt want. A nice soft brush is best to avoid a hard transition from one side to the other. The beauty of use a layer mask and not eraser tool for the blend is that what you remove with the black brush can be undone with the white brush thus giving you loads of control. When I had the work complete on the blend I wanted to accentuate the age difference between the two sides so I ran a high pass filter on that layer and overlayed it this gave the textured rough look on the older head.the last step was to convert the image to Mono (use any method you find best) then again use a layer mask on this and paint back in the eyes. Throughout this process there was a bit of merging and flattening which is a disaster when it comes to correct workflow but thats the way I did it and I know my workflow is a trainwreck  . Hope this helps but I am not great at putting actions into words….
shutterbugParticipantExcellent John, and although there was a lot of work involved it was well worth it,
I am sure it frightened the bejaysus out of your son  he must have been thinking
“is that what I have to look forward to?” :lol:RASMITH32MemberconnieParticipantJohn,
Thanks for sharing how you did it. I think you have explained it very well and if I can understand it anyone can :lol:Thinking I will try this today as weather is mean outside :)
