Adding personal photographs

    Hi,

I wondering if someone had a similar experience. I am currently designing a storybook for a wedding I did in January. The bride had asked me if she could add a few photographs of people who I didn’t take photos of. I reluctantly agreed to that as it would be against my policy of using only my own images, the storybook is my business card after all … However, in the end she send me 15 photographs of her own, including some pics taken during the evening party. The quality is poor, poor lighting and bad composition. I don’t know how to handle this. Considering the recession, I’d like to be flexible. However, I’d also like her to know that I am not happy with this, as it will ruin the overall quality of the album. Any advise?

best i could say to u is that this is gona have ur name on it and it most certainly effect ur business no matter what u tell future Bride’s to be “sorry the bride took these photo’s ” she will still think that they r your photo’s them been in ur story book an all . No i would not let photo’s by someone elas be put in a my storybook if she wanted she can make up her own storybook, but something i would be showing future clients
i would like to make it as good as i possiblely be , on the otherhand where do u stop if u did it for this bride do u do it for the next and the next or the next as u have already done it for this bride it would be harder to say no,, the recession is not about been flexable in what u want to put out there now as people want the best they can get i would defo say NO it might hurt her now but u would be standing up to ur policy’s she employed u to take the best photo’s of her big day and that is what she got as for ur storybook that is yours and u should make it the best out there ,,,,,,,,,,

Sounds to me like you’ve already agreed to include the image in the storybook and if you change your mind now, you risk pissing her off.

Maybe you could add a spread to the album of ‘guests’ photos and style the presentation so they look like snapshots or something (like with a white border around like the ones you used to get from the chemist…)

She’s the customer so she gets what she wants. I have put pics into albums that looked ridiculous but the bride wanted them in there and as it’s her album so I put them in. They ruined the flow of the album but who am I to argue with a paying customer?

When you are ordering sample albums to show other brides then design them the way YOU want as they are your samples. My sample albums are completely different to what I delivered to the brides and are, imo, much better aesthetically than what the brides wanted but they haven’t got granny and best friend mary grinning in them :)

Great suggestion brightred but only if its absolutely necessary.
Turn them into little Polaroids and use your eye to slightly improve and crop them. Try this tutorial http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/create-a-polaroid-effect-of-your-photo/” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;.
Personally I wouldn’t cheapen a quality album with snapshots. Thats what Fujipix is for.

I agree, That IS a great suggestion Brightredshoes!!

I had this issue previously with a customer. There was only 4/5 photos. I had originally said no because of possibly quality issues, but when I saw them they were taken high res so I changed my mind and added them in all on their own page. This kept the bride very happy, that I was flexible like that. She didn’t really mind when I’d said no, but that made her happier.

But like Ballyman, I don’t use that as a sample album. I have one made up of several differn’t weddings picking the best of them all. It seems you’ve agreed now so probably best to go ahead with it. So long as you inform her that there may be a noticable difference between your shots and hers.

    Hope that helps! :)

    Hi all,

Thanks for your suggestions and sorry for the late reaction (posted it in the wrong place, posting was moved and I couldn’t find it).
Great to hear that I am not the only one. Yes, I did agree to the first few photos. I felt that I didn’t have a choice but to agree to the other ones as well. I made it very clear that I made a big exception and that she had to consider that the quality of the photos provided was very low. She did not really respond to this. I like the suggestion of the additional page. I will add them at the end of the book, last page and will frame as suggested in white. I will photoshop them as bit to make it look a bit better.
And obviously my sample book has only my own photographs in it!
    Thanks again!

    Kate
