Favourite Lens/Lenses and Why?

    Hey Everyone,

After a very happy purchase of my new Canon 7D I am now looking at upgrading and expanding my lens collection. At the moment I have a SIGMA 24-70mm f/2.8, a Canon 50mm f/2.5 and a Canon 90-300mm lens.

I am hoping to mainly shoot portraits, weddings and some Street photography. These are the areas which interest me most. So what lenses have you got that you would recommend.

Thanks for all your help and wisdom as usual :) :D

    Hi Dan,

I love my canon 24-105 mm/F4 lens. It covers the perfect range for wedding and candid portrait
Photography, it’s fast as well. I have had it for 3 years now and its still my favourite lens. It has
Never disappointed me. A bit pricy but well worth the money.

Oh I would love to get my hands on one of those. Maybe in a few months I might be able to convince the other half its a good idea to get one.. Took a bit of persuasion to get them on board for the camera ha ha

The 24-105 has its fans and opponents. I like it as well for its versatility and it produces sharp images.

The advice concerning quality of lenses – buy the best quality you afford can – is true up to teh point of diminishing returns (i.e. the incremental increase in quality does not justify teh increase in cost). However, in general terms, once you’ve used a good lens, you’ll never be happy with a lesser-spec one.

One of my favourites: Canon 300mm f4 L IS. Great for sports photography.

    Hi Dan,

I know what you mean, I have been them many times. Good luck!

BM I would never have much use for a 300mm lens. No interest in sports photography! Portraits and the likes are more my thing. But I could imagine the quality of shots you would get with a lens of that calibre

Kate – I am hoping to be able to convince them it is a good idea!!

85mm f/1/8 — okay its not as sharp as the 1.2 but it is 1.34 tonnes lighter

135mm f/2 — sharper than a very sharp thing indeed!!
