    Hi Liam,

Beautiful scenery here and I’m sure you enjoyed being out and about.

It’s never easy to translate the wonderful scene we see with our eyes into
    a wonderful photograph.
Light is so important and it is generally accepted that the light to be found
in the few hours around sunrise and sunset is the best.

Then because landscapes generally include sky we have the problem that the sky
is normally much brighter than the land.
Our eyes can handle this difference very well but often our cameras, especially when
left to meter on their own, produce dissapointing results.

Of course it is not always possible to get to a lovely location when lighting conditions
    are perfect.

I would try to get back here when the sun is low and consider using a graduated filter
    to hold back the sky.

I also wonder whether including the animals so prominently confuses whether the animals
or the landscape is the subject.

As always my observations are just my personal opinions and intended to help rather than criticise.

    Cheers,

    John.

Hi John, thanks for your interesting comments. I took these early enough in the morning, around 9.00am or so from memory, you probably wouldn’t know to look at it but it was a particularly wild day with very strong winds. Anyway, I take your point on light, and perhaps if i had been there an hour earlier the results would be better. I don;t have a graduated filter and they do seem to be important if not essential for this sort of shot.
Your point on the cows is an interesting one. I probably took a mathematical approach to it, that an interesting landscape plus a bunch of animals = a more interesting landscape. However its not that simple obviously, and perhaps one takes away from the other. These were shots that I thought looked great on the camera when I was taking them but when I put them on screen I was less impressed.

    Anyway, I appreciate your comments.

    Thanks
    Liam.
