This is how we harden up the kids in Togher, feed them rocks

    Taken with 7D, 17-40 f4, 1/200th f11, ISO200

I was playing with fill in flash and dialing down the flash (on camera popup  ) exposure compensation for this shot and I knda like the way it turned out. Bottom version hasn’t too much done to it but I played with the levels in LR3 for the first 1 and love the way it turned out.

What do you think? Any C&C appreciated

Prefer the first one, the colours are nice and puts me in mind of
another era, has a kind of old time feel to it.

I think both are very good.
By posting 2 versions you have me scrolling up and down and trying to
    decide which is best.
It’s hard to know although #2 looks a little more natural, processing wise, and
I suspect the colours may be closer to reality.

That said I agree with Jenny re #1 having a felling of images from earlier times.

The composition and exposure look very good and the subject looks relaxed and natural.

I always wonder if a portrait like this would be improved if the subject was looking into the lens…..

    Nice stuff.

Cheers for the comments, I definitely prefer the first myself, must save that as a preset in LR for future use.

I did try my best to get him to look at me, but sure it’s like he has a mind if his own

    i love both :)
I love how he’s looking away, its kind of like are they looking at me..
I prefer the first one aswell. :)
