Some photos i’ve taken over the last couple of weeks. Im new here so any advice would be great. Have use a Canon 1000D with Sigma 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Lens. I shoot with shutter priority 1/1000, AI Focus, Continuous shooting etc. Should I be using AI Servo ?

Dilzy when i shoot any kind of fast moving sport like GAA or Football i try and use av mode f4 to f5 when it is good light iso around 400 awb center spot focus try to keep it on the chest or head and watch your speed use iso and f no to keep it around 1/ 1000 for sharp images you can check out some of my pics on http://www.desmondloughery.com” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; but im like yourself im learning.
fordemParticipantNice shots, Personally I shoot in Aperture priority, or manual if conditions are constant ie. over cast or sunny, Flood-lit, with the lens you are using I would shoot wide open, Shutter – continuous, Focus-al-servo, centre spot focusing and a monopod if available.
For fast action you would be looking for at least 1/800 to 1/1000sec, you may have to up the ISO to achieve this, most pro’s use f2.8 prime lens.
Watch the game thru the lens and anticipate the players next move, allowing for shutter lag and burst speed.
Probably the best position is on the end line, about half way in from the corner flag, where the players are running towards you, then just wait for the right moment to hit the button, and try to keep the camera level, so that it does not look as if the games is being played on the side of a hill, “still trying to keep that in mind my self”. I would also crop up your pics to get rid of unnecessary clutter in the shot. After all that its down to plenty of practice…. Hope this of some use to you.
Best of luckdilzy82ParticipantThanks a million lads, hopefully i’ll get to try out these settings and tips over the weekend. Keep them coming :)
