    Hi there

Ive had a friend recently ask me about tax and vat on just selling framed photos taken by themselves, now while i have set up as a sole trader i got all confused with advice to give her, she is working part time and photography is a hobbie/ second income but she has now started to sell quite an amount of photos framed she wants to set up account especially for this money going in and out, what is best way to do this while staying on right side of the law as she working approx 20 hours in a shop?

The short answer is that VAT is not chargeable or due unless she is registered for VAT. Registration is optional, unless she hits the limits set out here : http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vat/registration/index.html

Income Tax is payable on the profits from the sales (obviously all relevant costs are deductible).
