This was my first opportunity to take pictures of a badger and then the kits show up. This den was dug over the weekend and the kits came out on Tuesday. This must be one of the several maternal dens used during the spring. When the older den gets too messy they move to a new site. I see that the badger in Ireland is differently colored.
Thats a lovely set of pictures, the badgers here would be more black and white and
have a more pronounced stripe, how lucky to be in the right place at the right time!
or have you been watching for them?
Fantastic shots! Our badgers are very different in both appearance and habit. They tend are nocturnal and favour wooded areas as opposed to open grassland. They also tend to remain in their sett (den) year round and are fastidious housekeepers, replacing bedding regularly. I haven’t managed to get any cub shots yet, however. Thanks for posting these.
