do these work ?

Hey guys this is a bit of a pet project of mine trying to focus on shapes and colours picking smaller tighter shots out of the vistas that I normally post. Although I really like these myself something niggles I would love your opinions on them as I have been known in the past to get obsessed with various projects that looking back on them I think to myself what a waste of time and energy . Cheers in advance for any feedback.

the second one doesn’t do anything for me, maybe the similarity between the 1st and 2nd picture.. i did see on ur flickr page that you tried a different version but still don’t think is a strong as the first one..
the first one is a seller ;)I love the way the light is falling on the ferns…real nice touch. The lines and the placement of the object all make up a lovely second triptech… Melikey :D

Hi John,
This is the second set of triptychs I’ve seen on PI recently and it’s great to see something
new to get the thought processes going.I too like #1.
I must admit to having no knowledge of the art of the triptych but somehow the images
in #1 look very harmonious to me.
As individual images they look good too and together they really work.When I looked at #2 I didn’t get the same feeling of harmony.
Don’t get me wrong I think it’s very good but I think when 2 images are included in a post I
find myself comparing them and #2 definitely comes off second best to my eye.
I tried to analyse why this might be so.
I notice the colour is slightly different in the images and I also wondered if the different directions
of the lines disrupts the harmony.All in all a very interesting post and methinks I’ll have to try one of these soon.

Hi John. #1 is very good, but as others have said #2 is lacking something. I usually find that horizontal lines rarely work for me in patterns. Also the placement of the small (maybe too small) stone maybe the reason #2 doesn’t work for me. Perhaps placing the stone in the furthest corner area using the lines to lead to it might work. Good stuff though.

First one would be my favourite, something really lovely about the different shades of green.;o)
Fiexcellent as always johnny! :-) i have seen these before , probably on your flickr page. i do agree that the 1st triptych is the better …….and is quicker to draw your eye but that could be to do with the beautiful contrast in colour between the black and greens. the 2nd i really like also , i think the only real “weakness” ( and i use the term very loosely ) is the middle shot.. and im not quite sure why….im not sure if its the change in tone , or lack of stone , or what….and i understand that the whole point of these is to present different elements of the scene..so neither of those reasons should be relevant…..id still love to hang it on my wall!! :)
John as regards #1 I think the centre photo is too dominant and as a result the end photos hardly count. The presence of your logo does pull the eye over to the RHS. As a result this combination IMO does not hang well together.
#2 to my eyes is a much more satisfactory result. There is an evenness across all 3 photos which enables the viewer to enjoy the photo as a whole and it’s individual parts.
As an ongoing project this could really change your approach to picture taking and we all need something like that from time to time.John,
#1 is definitely the stronger as already mentioned.
I think in #2 if the 3rd image (right side) was rotated so that
the lines were horizontal and the stone/shell balanced the
one in the 1st image it might work better.
