Wedding charges

    Hi everyone,

Just a quickie…..I recently did a wedding as another photog double booked the day and needed me to do the work.

The question is how much do I charge??

Is there a ‘GOING RATE’ or anything?

I know the wedding package was €1300 and I have done all the editing etc…

Any help would be appreciated as I normally work by myself for myself.

    Thanks a million.

Surely you agreed your fee with him before doing the job?

No I didn’t as it was kind of last minute.

Did the original photographer who was double-booked have an agreement with the couple ?

    Hi Mark,
he did have an agreement with them for the album and pricing and also confirmed me doing the photographs for them.

I’d imagine so that the pricing he agreed would apply, ie you get paid €1300 for the agreed package (prints/albums or
    whatever was in the package).

You should also speak to your friend about it especially if he is providing the physical album for example. As that cost
(and possibly others he’s encuring) will need to be removed from the €1300 leaving you with a large percentage of the
remainder if you get my drift.

    Just my thoughts on it…

Cheers for the reply Mark. I was thinking along those lines myself, just wanted a bit of outside advice.

    Again….many thanks.

As you did the wedding then you should take the whole thing in charge. It’s very careless and strange how a photographer can get “double booked”.
I always consider it the most important day in a couples life and I can never understand why someone can let them down due to a bit of carelessness and, all too often, greed. Even when things were at a peak and we were doing a few weddings every week I would never allow myself to double book and let people down that put trust in me to be there on their day.

As far as I would be concerned it’s your wedding now and you should reap any rewards available.

Thanks for that Gerry. I don’t know for sure if he really ‘double booked’ but I am assuming he told me that so he could try and get the cash for it.
The hard part is that I did my ‘time’ with him and while I was working for him and learning the trade I used to get a couple of hundred quid for doing full weddings, and I think he is going to try and head down that road, even though I haven’t worked for him for years!!!!

Myself and another photographer cover each other when we are on Hols, sick…. anyway we only deliver digital images so if I do a shoot for him, as soon as he is paid for it he pays me the full amount and visa versa. when it it a one of client then they pay the photog directly
