These are all shots i took in Austria. There are more, but these are the landscape ones. Enjoy and comments are always welcome!

hi Dave. Nice mood and minimilist composition in all these images. The second lacks sharpness but the rest are spot on. Its always difficult to tackle the sun in images as it really expands the dynamic range but as regards blown highlight your images look fine the actual sun is always gonna look like that even to the naked eye….

Love number 1…how do you get the black frame on the photos? Lovely finish to lovely images!

hehe i’ve had alot of people say the 1 lacks sharpness, but it’s focused on the stones. I’ve 2 versions, one where the stones are in sharp focus and one with the mountains/sun in focus and i find this one the most pleasing, personally, but like i said, not everyone likes it :)
I used a graduated filter to try and avoid blown highlights, got a minimum error report in raw editing so i was pleased with that. I might also edit the background sharper one and upload it to.

Also the border is done with canvas size expanded, then i go select the whole image, go to select, modify, border, select an area 10-15 pixel more then the amount i expanded the canvas, select it, then fill with black :)

Uploaded an alternative focus version of #2 with the mountains in focus, no editing back a tighter crop, taken from nearly the same position as the original.

I see where your goin but If you were up around F16 onwards everything from say 2 feet to infinity (dont know exactely not knowing your lens) would be in focus. Dont get me wrong I see where your going with the selective focus especcially with the first version and the more I look at it it grows on my but I still think the classic composition wins with everything in focus. But it is subjective and everyones taste is different

to be quite honest that whole selective focus thing really doesn’t work for me on landscape shots like this……i think you need to get everything in focus when the shot is so deep, i actually get dizzy looking at 2 and 5 . i really think a nice f/18 in the right place could have made the shot a winner…….4 is a really lovely shot ( the stand out shot to me) , its just a shame its so tight on the right hand side…although i do like 3 aswell!

I totally agree about 4 mate! Its way to tight, but the problem was, any further out and i caught this horrible cement structure to so I was really restricted by the area unfortunately. I had hoped to capture a long jetty and a sunset but that was on private property and i just couldnt get any closer to angle the shot anymore then i did, was already in the water at that point :)

Yeah i was just experimenting with the selective focus, gotta try everything before you can decide what you like :) I think a large poster print of 2 would be really nice, im planning on getting one done actually. Its not to everyones taste of course. I think i mostly shot at f10+ but because of the low light i had to manually focus for those shots, the result was the “selective focus” where it was more me almost upside down looking at the LCD display trying to get focus :)

(no i had no tripod, i forgot it in germany!)

always the way……seeing the shot and being able to take the shot are 2 completely different things !! :x still lovely though :) ….and the thing on the selective focus is just my opinion …. you know what they say about them  a tripod stuck in germany isn’t much good to you :(

Oh yeah i see what your getting at about the selective focus, i was really just trying to get it focused in low light manually and it just came out that way :) i wont pretend it was on purpose!
I guess its all down to taste. It is a bit hard to focus on, but i really do like it!

Was disappointed with how many private areas there were, taking some of the nicest areas, but i got lucky and found a nice little rest stop near the bottom of the lack! thank god for large cokes and tiny bladders :D

I like the first in particular, though is it me or is the canoe going downhill a bit?
I think the portrait format suits most of them but I would have like to have seen a bit
more width in the first and last, a nice set though, well done.

Ah i was the same way back when i started it. Used to use Paint Shop Pro as it was a little more basic but when it comes to editing i cant go back from photoshop. Best thing to do is google “photoshop tutorials” you’ll get hundreds of sites that’ll help you out and if you have a certain style or idea you want just type “*insert idea here* photoshop tutorials” and you’ll get all you need. Its how i found 99% of what i wanted to do, plus about 50 on top of that of things i never wanted to do but were cool anyway :D
