…..a Sigma 24-70 3.5/5.6 UC Aspherical lens? I cant seem to find any info
on it good or bad. Is it so bad nobody bothers to write about it or is it so
good everyone wants to keep it to themselves? Plenty of info on the 2.8 but
not this particular one. Anyone used one??5faytheParticipantHi Jenny,
At the moment I don’t know if anybody I know has one.
We have a camera club outing tomorrow and I’ll ask.I found this thread with some user reviews which you might find useful:
http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=98&sort=7&cat=37&page=1″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;Cheers,
John.
shutterbugParticipantThanks John, those reviews seem to range from abysmal to not bad to good, I guess
that is down to famous Sigma quality control  Though those reviews were for the
HF version which is a later version of the UC (ultra compact I think it stands for) Funny how
there is no info on it…..even on Ken Rockwell no mention!damien.murphyParticipantHi Jenny,
Imagine you’ll find reviews sporadic and few and far between for small aperture third party zooms, which can often be ten-a-penny. Any particular reason you are looking at this lens ? I’m a Nikon shooter myself, and know if I was looking at low aperture, wide-range zooms, I wouldn’t look too far beyond the myriad of Nikon kit lenses, as they’re all pretty good. Unless I was getting a freebie, of course :)

shutterbugParticipantHey Damien, I was looking for a wide angle for my D700 but all the recommended lenses
were an arm a leg and a kidney  This particular lens popped up on ebay for buttons
(yes usually a reason for it) I actually bought it anyway for under €30 delivered so it wasnt
a huge risk, and its actually not that bad so for the amount of time I will be using it I am
pleased with it. I just thought it strange that there were no reviews on it.Thanks for the reply :)
damien.murphyParticipantNo worries, and congrats on the D700. I’m sure the sigma will be fine, but probably not as sharp as it can be, below f8 probably, but then again thats just conventional wisdom, and it could be a great lens :)
EDIT: I should add, you’ll have to rectify the matter, and add a review here on PI, once you’ve come to grips with it :)
