Connemara never gets boring (HDR)

Hi,
Went down to Connemara last week and took a few shots. I just love that part of the world, depending on the weather, the season, the time of the day, the sceneries are never the same. Took a lot photos in Connemara before, but never tried HDR, so here they are. I know that HDR photos may not be everybody’s cup of tea. But I do like the surreal feeling for Irish landscapes, kind of adding to the mystery… All C & C welcome. Thank you.
sirvadMemberAlot of people dislike Hdr for some reason. I like it when its done right. For me these are overcooked which makes them very false looking.Colours are over saturated to my taste. The second is a little soft on the old building. i like the composition, and love the reflection in the 1st image. the boat is a little blown out though. Hope i have helped and not sound like a cracky auld git :)
shutterbugParticipantI am on a bit of a HDR kick myself lately, but I am told I will get better soon :)
I dont dislike HDR I think it is just another way of processing but I do think it needs
to be done with a bit of restraint, as has been said the composition of the two shots
are good and if the saturation was pulled back a little they would be easier on the
eye. That is just my opinion and if you like them thats all that matters!snaphappyMemberHi “stone” ? leaving the whole HDR side out of the equation I said enough about that on earlier critiques of images. I think the composition on both of these images are spot on especially in the first they are really balanced and sypathetically cropped to suit the scene. Look forward to seeing more.
jodal1975Participantcomposition is perfect in both and they are both great photos …but to be honest the hdr is way over done for my liking. its not that im not a fan of h.d.r. , i am ! but i think for normal landscape shots less is definitely more. urban landscape and inside old buildings etc is where the over cooked processing works best….imo.

Very much agree or selective HDR blending at low opacities can work well in landscapes too, also agree with the compositions , very good
stone0046MemberHi,
Thanks to everybody who took time to view the photos and also thanks very much for all the comments. I agreed with everybody’s point that the HDR effects are overly done. Normally, I would be holding back a lot more with HDR effect, but this time, I was actually trying to mixed the “high key photography” element into landscape photos, (not sure if this makes any sense). Basically, I was trying to achieve the effect of pictures for desktop background for PCs. I tried to process them in a more conserved way, but it looks very dull and not as “hyper energetic”… Sorry I should have explained these in my original post. Anyway, really appreciate all the comments, cheers!alpacaParticipantReally like the mountains and reflection in the first on, both photos nicely composed!
sndipoMemberI like the first one. I don’t mind HDR at all and think it’s nice. One of the boats is blown but otherwise great composition as already mentioned and still well done! :)
markst33ParticipantI am a fan of HDR and I think that every now and again it should be “overcooked”.. I like the composition in both and I think the 1st would make a great Jigsaw :)
Mark.
