Photography at football matches

I have been taking photos of our local GAA team for the past couple of years. My son plays on that team and I have recently been asked to supply photo’s for the teams website.

I am not comfortable about this until I am clear on the legalities and to protect myself and the teams management once images are put up on a public website by myself as I have access to the control panel to upload.

There is also the concern that I will have pictures of from other teams in the shots..! does this present a problem..?

I have approached a committee member and asked that they table this matter at the next meeting and to authorise me me or vett me to take photographs at all future matches..maybe have to wear some sort of high-vis vest with the word “approved photographer” stamped on the back

Its difficult to hide behind a 70-200 lens in a 5D without people asking questions.

Does anybody know legally where I stand here… I don’t think I need model release, but I am sure I need to be approved by the team to take photo’s ? Its clearly a topic that is getting more air-time

    Regards

    Paul

There are no laws stopping you taking photos nor putting them online.

If you have permission to enter the grounds, and there are no clauses on admission forbidding photography, then you’ve every right to take images.

The age of the players has absolutely no baring on the question.

I’d agree 100% with Paul. I was in your situation eskerman. What I did was approach the manager & officials & get to make sure your ok. I was asked to take photos for our local team. One thing that is vital is that you don’t approach the teams during halftime, because they’re usually discussing tactics & don’t want to be disturbed. You should be allowed to photograph them whilst they are discussing tactics, just don’t use your flashgun/pop-up flash because it can annoy them. Something I’ve encountered is that people always tackle me on ‘why are you there and I’m not?’. Some people automatically assume that because they have a 1D & L lens & I’ve a 1000D & EF-S lens they should be in there. Just be polite & explain that your there to do a job.

A little long-winded but I hope it helps!

Anything else, let me know & I’ll try to help.
