  I would have taken the image in portrait rather than landscape mode
  if you get my drift. it would have excluded the unnecessary clutter surrounding
  her. I would have also have come down to the childs eye level rather than being above her.

  Agree with John, try cropping the sides off and maybe boost the contrast
  a little it looks a little bit grey rather than black and white.
