Table top studio

Hey,
Does anybody know anything about table about table top lighting kits?
They seem really cheap, good for thing for me as I am poor. There is on in Maplin for £30 (guessing less than €50).
Would they be any good for lighting close ups?
My lighting at the moment is a Nikon SB-400, a reading lamp and the window…I bought a pair of Halogen garage lamps from lidl’s a couple of years ago, big ones on stands. £12 each I think. If I’m doing kitchen table photography they’re my light source. I removed the protective grids to avoid them throwing shadows. Sorry I’ve no examples to post at the minute. Good for macro work with the extension tubes, where you need all the help you can get with lighting.
