Nikon Flash Repair?

    Has anyone had any successful dealings with a company in Ireland / UK who could repair an SB-800? One of mine got dropped at a wedding recently and whilst still functioning well, the LCD is damaged and the middle section is unreadable – not great for setting power level / changing function etc.

    Nikon UK won’t provide an estimate without sending the unit over to them even though its clear that the screen just needs replaced.

    Photographic repair services in Portobello in Dublin have done stuff for me over the years. their website is:
    http://www.camerarepaircentre.com/” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;

    I did send some Nikon gear to a guy in Kildare for servicing but I’ve lost his details.

    If you send the unit to nikon Uk with the sole instruction to replace the screen at your risk, they should do it. However they will not test it or carry out any other works. This brings up the question of who is most likely to accurately diagnose the full extent of damage to your flash.
    The reason for the estimate is that if there is any other damage (e.g. cracked pcb or lifted solder pads) that is not initially apparent, they want to be able to advise you as to what is required to get your flash back to its original full functionality. The last thing you want is for your flash to start failing intermittently as the bride starts her walk down the aisle

    Best of luck

    SLR Service Centre in Meath are the only Irish repair centre for Nikon: 046-9557151 / slrservicecentregmail.com – they are very good, but don’t expect a price over the phone.
