HELP NEEDED: for photographic project
-
stewart kennyMember
Hey guys,
im starting a documentary landscape project, that i will be hoping to exhibit next year,
im basically photographing shipwrecks on the Irish coast, all types from rusting hulls to fragments scattered on beaches,
i don’t dive or anything so its just stuff i can access on the beach etc,
if anyone with local knowledge could give me the approximate location, and even accurate location i would be very much obliged
cheers
stew
nashielsParticipantstewart kennyMemberwestcoastMemberthe most famous in my area is “the plassey” wreck on the eastern coast off Inisheer Island in county Clare. probably the most photographed shipwreck in the country.
pauloconParticipantIsn’t the plassey the one on the intro to Father Ted?
I seem to remember there being a bit of a wreck on the beach in Mornington (here you go.. http://www.geograph.ie/photo/562971″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;). Stranded in 1980 and only small fragments remain.
Have a look at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_shipwrecks#Ireland” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; which confirms that the plassey is on Father Ted.
Interesting project – are you keeping a blog or anything like that as I find this kind of thing very interesting. Love reading the history etc. of the wrecks.
bieglyParticipantYou can ask this man about shipwrecks.
Check his portfolio: http://www.piotrkucma.pl/wraki/index_en.php” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
He probably has all pictures, the shipwrecks in Irelandstewart kennyMemberbiegly wrote:

i thinks its refered to alot as the baltray trader, apparently its braking up very badly
shutterbugParticipantThe Port Lairge is worth a look, I happened upon it on my way back from Waterford to Wicklow,
not sure of the exact location, but there are a few on the site that know where it is and can give
directions, not far from Saltmills I think??stewart kennyMemberbeasleyParticipantIts a while since Iv been down there, but there were a few down the Skiberreen/Baltimore area. I should be back down that way in the next few weeks and Il keep an eye out and come back to you with a few details. I know theres at least one in the harbour in Baltimore. I know Iv seen more, I just for the life of me cant think were.
Ah sorry, just remembered, down by innishannon theres a few on the river, its a really photographic area too. Once you go through the village you go over the bridge, turn left and head down towards the boat yard and theres one particularly nice one on your left hand side and a few more in different stages of disrepair
PD_BARBSParticipantTheres one in Bunbeg Co.Donegal, although I haven’t shot it myself, it is certainly very photgenic
PixelleMemberAnd another hulk at the mouth of the Vartry, by the road to the lifeboat station and the south pier
