Help! Anyone ever damage camera body putting a lens on?

    Hi All,
I’d really really appreciate some feedback on this. I was putting a lens onto my 5d Mk II this evening and instead of it gliding on, it went on very stiffly. A few mins later the camera started to tell me that the camera and lens weren’t communicating. I tried another lens and it also goes on very stiffly instead of gliding on but I can get the camera to work. I’m afraid to use it in case I’m forcing it and doing more damage. I obviously damaged the camera body putting the lens on in a hurry. Has this happened to you and what was the upshot of it? I am in Dublin on friday and am going to bring it to Conns where I bought it but I could really do without a hefty bill. Again, I was out doing a favour for a family member and not paid work and I’m really peed off.

    Hi Paula.
I had a bit of a problem lately with mounting my 60mm (EFS) macro onto the 7D. It was quiet stiff while turning it in the mount & I was nervous that I might have put too much pressure on it. The camera communicated with it & there was nothing unusual while shooting with it. It was also a bit stiff when removing it from the camera. When I used my EF lenses, they went on & off the camera without any problems & also worked perfectly. Every now & again, the EFS lenses tend to stiffen in the mount, but once I don’t force them on, they seem to work ok. I couldn’t see any damage on either the lenses or camera & can’t quiet work out what causes it to stick occassionally as neither the camera nor any of the lenses got any knocks whatsoever which might cause the problem. All are genuine Canon lenses & I have had the same issue with EFS lenses on the 50D occassionally. Maybe the lens mount is just made too snug for some lenses?
