A Dog’s Life – A Photo Essay

    Like a lot of people here I’m sure, my day job has absolutely nothing to do with photography or creating at all. And after a busy week at the office, I find it hard to get motivated to take photographs.

    So, a few weeks ago, for inspiration, I gave myself a project to create a documentary photo essay. I needed the subject to be easily accessible so the essay I chose to do was based on a day in the life of my dog.

    Yes, this subject is something quite trivial (and obvious) but I was more interested in the act of creating the essay and not necessarily the subject matter itself.

    I went for a kind of gritty black and white look and all in all, I shot 3 rolls of film all with a single camera and a single lens.

    I chose 12 shots for the essay and I have included a few here. The rest can be seen at http://davedunneonline.com/essay/adogslife/index.html” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;

    Has anyone else given themselves a project like this just to get the creative juices flowing again?

    Waiting at a traffic signal while on her nightly walk

    Dogs love riding in the car.

    A “Kong” full of treats keeps her busy during the day.

    Sassy indicates that it is time to eat by sitting by her bowl.

    A night time ritual, she leans her head against the bed.

    Hi Dave!

    Well, I’m a sucker for madras but Sassy is quite a poser. Love her story and delighted to see she landed on all four paws coming from rescue. Lovely set of images :)

    Great idea Dave and an enjoyable essay. Coincidence as I was looking through a few sites related
    to photo essay’s. Just need to find a subject and go for it I guess :)
