Buying from Amazon.co.uk
-
PaddysnapperParticipant
I am toying with the idea of buying (after I sell my D300) a Nikon D5100 largely because much as I love using my Nikon D700 the sheer weight is a killer…Now to the question! Has anybody here purchased a camera specifically a Nikon from Amazon in U.K.? And if so is it U.K./Ireland spec. with the two year Nikon warranty? I can’t seem to be able to ask Amazon direct!
Your comments will be much appreciated.
damien.murphyParticipantHi Paddy,
I’m afraid I haven’t bought camera equipment from Amazon, but suspect if you are buying from Amazon UK, as opposed to a marketplace merchant, then it will be UK stock, with the proper charger/ warranty etc. I’m sure others may chime in with their experiences.
Re: your comments on size, the D5100 would definitely have a smaller footprint than your D700, but have you considered either the D3100 (smaller again than the D5100), or perhaps the use of prime lenses when you want to keep the weight down. I’ve always had a weakness for something like a D3100 and a 35mm f1.8, but these days may go a little further, as I miss a truly pocketable camera.
PaddysnapperParticipantThank you for your reply Damien, it’s very much appreciated, and no I had not considered a D3100 but it looks good and will save an appreciable amount of Euros….But I very much covet the new sensor of the D7000 & D5100.. More things to contemplate. Cheers! :D
Gone2themoonParticipantI thought Amazon wont ship electronics to Ireland? Anytime I’ve tried, I get a message during the checkout?
paulParticipantAmazon won’t ship certain items to Ireland. But, you can find a list on their site.
Any item you buy will be UK product, so will be the same spec as here, and the same warranty.
PaddysnapperParticipantThank you very much for your replies. It’s been quite a week! D300 sold. D5100 arrived!
If anybody else seeks reassurance as to the origin of supply on Amazon goods, be assured it is 100% UK stock..At a very good prices and well packed for postage.BacklightParticipantI have very bad experience with amazon what they ship it takes always long to arrive.
My opinion lets keep the euro´s on the island :)PaddysnapperParticipantNever had a bother! Always happy to use them!.. I would love to keep my Euros on the island but sadly prices here are racked up to such a high degree I go to where I get best value> I really don’t think photographic dealers in the Republic give a flying proverbial about giving good value to customers… Amazon for me, most of the time.
insertnamehereParticipantI have been using Amazon for electronics and others items for about 10 years now and have never had a single problem with them. In fact, many of my orders have arrived before the estimated date.
As for the whole thing about keeping my Euros on the island, I’d love to, but I’m not going to be charged above the going rate, it’s basic free-market competition. If Irish suppliers are finding that they are losing out, then they can easily reduce their prices and stop ripping us off – there’s something wrong with the idea that I can buy the same item and have it delivered from the UK for less than I can buy it for here when I go into the shop myself. :)BallistiXParticipantI bought a camera from Amazon UK, got camera shipped to a UK friend, then collected from him (Trip to the border is not expensive, if you are doing a shop up there the same time your collected save every which way you can, lol). The warranty extended to 2 years is not an issue, as I spoke to Nikon and it’s all confirmed. Do buy from Amazon directly, not 3rd parties, the only way you will be assured the warranty is valid I’m afraid. Only Amazon Direct are recognised by Nikon for example as reputable sellers via their website.
