Christine is a taking photography classes and she wants to make good grades in it so she can receive her photography diploma. She just started classes and already has a digital camera. If you are the teacher, what would be some basic or adept photography tips would you tell to Christine?

Change your perspective – get high or get low when taking a photo. That will give a different view on the subject.

Be aware of everything that is included in the frame and try to exclude anything that is not adding to a successful image.

we have 2 eyes, the camera only one. We need to use light and shade to give the illusion of dimensions in a photo.

Get the shot as right as possible in camera… try and get out of the thinking “I’ll fix that later in Photoshop.”

Follow your instincts. Be creative. Some of my best shots have been shot standing (or lying) in strange places!

Buy filters for all your lenses! if you scratch the filter it is a lot cheaper to replace than buying a new lense. :)
    Always shoot raw :)

Take lots of shots. Digital has the huge advantage of film in that if you take 1 shot or 1000 with a digital SLR it is not going to cost you any more. So when you are looking at a scene take a load of shots in manual mode adjusting the aperature & shutter speed and viewpoint. Then when you get home you can see which one you think is best.

Sometimes sticking to the meter reading is not going to give you the most interesting shot and you will only find this out through experimentation and taking lots of photos.

Don’t think that the camera will see the picture or take images for you like those
you see professionally. It’s all in the eye of the photographer & learn how to use your camera.

    Be inspired, or find inspiration.
    Bring your camera with you.
Try always to have your camera close at hand, if not in hand.
    Take pictures.
Share the best of those images, learn from the worst of them.
