Rattlesnake Road, Valley of Fire

markcapilitanParticipant
Just back from a 2 week trip to the south western USA! Freezing cold there, but stunning light & skies. Here’s a taste…
5D, 24-70mm, Lee 0.6 grad filter, tripod, 1/4 sec f16 asa100.
BallymanParticipantThats a great shot.
There might be a little too much sky, maybe crop down to the top of the clouds?? Either way it deserves to be hanging somewhere.
jodal1975Participanttruly beautiful…probably agree with taking some off the top though, it seems to help draw you in…along the rd almost. definitely should take pride of place when hanging…one for everyone to see!! totally jealous
PucaMembershutterbugParticipantRodcunhaParticipantThat’s awesome as always Mark, haven’t seen your works for a while but I see that your talent is all there in bucket loads! :)
Not so cold in Ireland these days though.
sirvadMembermarkcapilitanParticipantThanks for the comments guys. Cropping the top, subjective, but I also shot this on an Xpan, so if it turns out as well, I’ll pop it up, there’ll be much less sky!
Highly recommend the park, it’s an hour from Vegas and so nice to get out of that manic city for the wilds!texMemberTerrific shot. As an XPan user I would love to see your result with that.
5faytheParticipantHi Mark,
Just to add my thumbs up to all the others.
Very nice image with lovely colour, interesting sky and the road snaking
through the image.Well done,
John.
DeeboParticipantmarkcapilitanParticipantThe resultant shot on the Hassleblad Xpan2, 45mm lens, Fuji Velvia, .6 grad filter. More a reinterpretation of the same scene. One of probably only 2 scenes where I prefer the digital version.
texMemberI would have to agree with you regards the XPan version, it just not have the same impact. Perhaps some work in PS might give it more kick.
markcapilitanParticipantTex that’s how the tranny looks, and I don’t do any other enhancing on a scan other than getting it exactly the way it looks on the lightbox.
The xpan shot is probably 10 mins before the dig version, when the light was getting better & better in the sky…but I knew it was super tough to shoot it on film, so concentrated on the digi version then….I preferred the composition of 35mm better also, road slightly off centre, which I couldn’t replicate panoramically, especially when cars were coming every few seconds!
