A lot of pros FB pages really are there to direct people to their own site, are you looking at this as a free version of your own site?

I’m inclined to agree with the above.
    Just self promotion!

It’s all part of “Social Networking as a Business Tool” isn’t it? Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and such are increasingly being used to get your name “out there” and the more of these groups you join, and the more people you follow, the more you will be seen. Even if like me, you aren’t interested in Facebook type sites! Tweetdeck is a good programme to install, as you can tweet/message from it to all of your social network simultaneously. You can also schedule your messages to appear whenever you want them too ie, do your Happy New Year message now, and schedule it to appear at 00.01 on 1st Jan. when anyone picking up Tweets etc on their iPhones etc. will receive it immediately. Isn’t technology just great?
Some good work on your page Marky, though it doesn’t appear to be a Facebook business page, it’s a standard Facebook page I think.

Most of the photographers in my area, both pro and amateur, have a page on Facebook.

Maybe I’m missing something but it seems to me to be another form of getting your message out
to people who might just be interested in buying what you have to sell.
    Advertising.
    “self promotion” if you like.

I try to “self promote” my business all the time.

I’m with Alex on this and am puzzled by the negative sounding tone of the other replies.

As I said maybe I’m missing something. :?

    Cheers,

    John.

I am puzzled as to how anyone could see what I said to be in any way negative? I made a statement and asked a question.
I went to the facebook page and looked for info that referred to a business web site and did not find it so I asked a question.

    Hi Brian,

Coupled with John17’s reply I got the impression that that both of you seemed to be
having a pop at Marky for using Facebook to promote his business.
I also noticed that neither reply wished him well in his endeavours.

If I misunderstood your reply I apologise.

    Cheers,

    John.

Self-Promotion is all important – if you don’t promote yourself, no-one else will. Facebook business pages can serve as a website in their own right, or can be the “Lite” version of your main website. Everybody is welcome to take a look at mine. You’ll find a link to my website there. (It isn’t http://www.agphotoshop.com as in my signature here. I let that site expire, but found I couldn’t change my signature in my profile. Don’t all go rushing to copy my business model now, y’hear!)

You most certainly did misunderstand me. further more I think the fact that I took the time to look at his facebook page, look through it and comment should be enough to show that I do wish him success without having to put some glossy insincere veneer on it to make everyone one happy. I know many pros that use facebook, with the exception of one in the wedding end of the business almost all use it as a method to lead people to their actual site

    take care

Its just the beginning, its an easy way to share and self promote and if it gets the ball rolling I will create a website. Thank you all for your comments.

    Happy New Year,

    Mark.

My view on it was he was using this site as a piggy back to overtly promote his own.
That in my opinion did not appear correct but in saying that a lot of members do have links attached
with their own pages with the ‘option’ of looking, not an impromptu ‘have a look at this’
Just my view & hopefully no one died from reading it!
    Happy New Year!!!!
