Kodak leaves digital. Stays in film

So Kodak is getting out of the digital camera business (may license the brand)

…plans to phase out its dedicated capture devices business – comprising digital cameras, pocket video cameras and digital picture frames

But the good news is that the company will continue with its film business.

Kodak’s continuing consumer products and services will include:

The traditional film capture and photographic paper business, which continues to provide high-quality and innovative products and solutions to consumers, photographers, retailers, photofinishers and professional labs.

    Good news indeed.

Oh that is good !. I think the move from digital makes sense for them seeing as they never really
were a serious player in the market.

Apparently their film division was the only one making a profit.

Since Kodak ceased the production of HIE, my attitude towards them is ‘To Hell with Them’. I never used their film except for HIE and their continued survival is of little interest to me.

    Perhaps thats a little harsh?

A your very harsh Vincent:-) I like their T-Max films allot and really like their xtol developer… Have a freezer full of HIE also:-)

The more film/paper manufacturers there are the more competition there will be. Competition is normally good as without it there would be less chance of new film/papers being developed and the price could possibly go up. Thats what me thinks anyhow…

Ya its a bit harsh :)

I love their Tri-x tbh. At least them and Ilford are still producing film, albeit not everything people want.

It’s true that kodak don’t have anything like the customer relations ilford has but I love kodak products. If a product is not selling then you can’t blame a company when they discontinue it. I would think that applies to most businesses.
