Can I have some help please?

  • I would like to start doing some photography as a hobby in my spare time. I would mainly be taking close-up photographs of flowers and insects, as well as images of my family and outings in general. I would like to be able to take pictures which display vibrant colours, good detail and be able to make the background blurry. Does the 1100D seem like the best option for me?

Hello and welcome to the site, any entry level dslr’s will do the trick, it is more important
that the camera you choose will feel right in your hand, you will be holding it hopefully often
and for long periods so it is important that you feel comfortable with it. So if you haven’t
already done so I would go to a camera shop and get the feel of a few different models to
see how the fit. All of the new dslr’s are very similar in quality and will give you great pictures,
the more important piece of equipment will be the lenses, so it is worth putting your money
into lenses rather than the body, once you decide which camera to go for look for a second hand
    body maybe.

Good luck in your search and look forward to hearing which one you eventually go for. :)

    Hi simoneyapril2011,
I persoanlly own a Canon 400D. Its a few years old but I use it mainly to take landscape pics and I take alot of close up pics of flowers etc. I also use Sigma macro lense for close up pics which I bought in the US for a fraction of the price here in Ireland. Albeit I was in the US at the time. I agree with Jenny that its worth getting a good lense. Here is an example of pics I took with the Sigma macro http://www.dpreview.com/galleries/4367186200/photos/1529283/img_4397″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; and http://www.dpreview.com/galleries/4367186200/photos/1529282/img_4386″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;. Any good camera shop will assist you if you tell them what type of pics you want to take and they should be able to show you what you need. There is a good selection of cameras out there and you can be inundated with info going into a shop. Can I suggest http://www.dpreview.com/” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; as a website to look at cameras. You can compare different cameras here. I had a look at this site before I bought mine as at the time it had new technology. There are also some good 2nd hand cameras out there if you dont want to spend big or want to commit to buying anything brand new as I know digital slr’s arent cheap. If you need anymore help dont hesitate to ask.

    Regards
    Killian
