hiya, brand new to the world of dslr’s, ive always enjoyed photography and im pretty PC savvy, i managed to get my hands on a 2nd hand canon 350d with a big lense thing (very technical lol) ive found myself with a lot of time to myself recently and thought id have a bash at taking some nice snaps. after a couple of weeks, ive got the basics down and im messing about with photoshop but my learning curve has stalled. wanting to take this up as a hobby i found this forum and hope to go a bit further with your help.
im finding the non live view challenging and compensating with taking loads of the same snaps with different basic settings but just cant get the camera to function in low light, not being able to see what i want to shoot is actually worse than the blurry snaps im left with, especially at night.
anyway, ive been shooting? snapping? (dont know the terminology yet) mainly in the house and close to home so im off out today to shoot up a bit of Donegal lol
look forward to getting better and browsing the forum for a better idea.
it says canon eos kiss digital n on the camera but canon 350d when i usb it!
sigma dc zoom 18-200mm 1:3.5-6.3,,, no idea what this means?sorry for the long intro, im keen lol
cheers
Steve

plasticpaddyMemberThe Kew TourMemberHow are ya doing Paddy and welcome to the forum. This is a great place to pick up some hints and information if you’re new to the game. Keep looking at other peoples websites and photos and maybe you’ll draw some inspiration from them. Everyones here to help each other so don’t be afraid to ask questions. And most important of all, keep snapping/shooting (it doesn’t matter what you call it so long as you do it). Great to have you on board.

shutterbugParticipantWelcome to the wonderful world of photography Paddy, plenty of information here for the asking,
so dont be shy.Your 18-200mm lens is a great all round, everyday type lens and you will get great use from it, the
numbers 18-200 refers to the focal length 18mm being wide angle for landscapes etc, and the 200mm
for getting things to appear nearer. The 3.5 to 6.3 refers to the minimum and maximum aperture
so at 18mm you can achieve a wide aperture of 3.5 which lets in more light and at 200mm the widest
aperture you can achieve is 6.3 slightly less light. It is back to front the smaller the f number the
wider the aperture…..confusing I know but you will soon get used to it. A great little book to read
is Understanding Exposure, it explains all the nitty gritty of aperture and shutter speeds in easy to
understand language and well worth a read.Another great way of learning is to join a camera club!
