What’s so great about photography as a hobby?

While chatting with a few friends about why we are involved in our own particular hobbies, I thought it would be a fun thread to see how many benefits we come up with in relation to photography as a hobby. I’ll just start with a few. Please feel free to add more. :D
*It is relatively inexpensive & can be great value for money.
*It can be done by almost anyone.
*It can be done by day or night.
*It can be done indoors or out.
*It can be done in any type of weather.
*It’s a great way to get some exercise.

The greatest thing about our hobby is the photographic record we all make of our journey through life.

Looking back on a lifetime of photographic endeavour, the pictures I enjoy now are not necessarily the ones that I prized so highly at the time they were taken, rather they are the images that powerfully evoke the memories of how we once were. The kids when they were kids, loved ones long gone, little reminders of the milestones and trivia of our lives.

Although, in my time I’ve taken countless photographs of family and friends (often with less than enthusiastic subjects :) ), I wish now that I’d taken ten times more!

You don’t actually have to do it, you can just talk about it. :)
