Hi everyone. I’m thinking of buy a set of extension tubes for some dabbling in macro work. I’m very much a beginner and don’t really want to fork out for a macro lens. Just wondering what they’re like? I will be mainly using them at home (indoor winter photos :P) shooting abstract patterns and random junk.
Is the picture quality ok?
are they very flimsy?
Are they hard to set up for a shot?
They are a cheap and cheerful way of getting closeups, not flimsy basically a plastic
tube with a camera mount on one end and a lens mount on the other, you get focus by
moving the camera nearer or further away from the subject rather than using focus
ring. But good results can be got with a bit of practise. Another alternative would be
to reverse the lens using a reversing ring and that is putting your lens on back to front
and again there is no aperture adjustment or focus, it is just done by moving the camera
in and out till focus is achieved.
Both these can be done really cheaply, and provides hours of fun :)
